Pacific Eden Ship Details

Pacific Eden

Pacific Eden

One of the new arrivals to P&O Australia for summer 2015, Pacific Eden has been given an extensive revamp inside and out, including debuting P&O's new approach to cruise dining – replacing the traditional buffet with fresh food stations at the Pantry. Pacific Eden sails on a variety of routes around Australia, the South Pacific and Asia, departing from a number of locations including Sydney, Fremantle, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns and Singapore.

A Little History

Pacific Eden started life as MS Ryndam, constructed for Holland America Line in 1994 and named after the Rhine River. Following several refits to keep the ship up-to-date, the Ryndam was transferred to P&O Cruises in 2015 along with her sister ship, rechristened Pacific Aria. These new arrivals have been given a major overhaul with new decor and facilities to match P&O's other Australian vessels, Pacific Jewel, Pacific Dawn and Pacific Pearl.

Ship's Design

On her launch in 1994, the 220-metre Statendam class vessel was celebrated as one of the largest and most manoeuvrable cruise ships in the world. Pacific Eden is still a striking and elegant sight when she sails into port today, particularly following her makeover in 2015 that modernised exterior and interior decor throughout. Specially commissioned artworks add personality to the ship's public areas, the most striking being a vast sculpture that forms the centrepiece of the triple-level Atrium.

On Board Pacific Eden

Staterooms

Pacific Eden's cabins are designed to suit every passenger's needs and to offer the experience of a luxury hotel at sea. With 630 staterooms and suites spanning four classes, you have the flexibility to choose the room that's just right for you, your fellow travellers and your price range. All cabins are equipped with newly renovated en-suite bathrooms, fluffy towels, air conditioning, a flatscreen TV, deposit box, hairdryer and more.

For those who appreciate the finer things in life, Pacific Eden's Suites and Mini-Suites are the ultimate in luxury, featuring separate living areas, balconies, coffee machines and exclusive services such as priority embarkation. You can still enjoy the privacy of your own balcony when staying in a Balcony Room, or choose an Oceanview Room for the same magnificent views from a large window or portholes. If you don't need the view, Inside Rooms are a cheaper option that still include all the standard amenities.

Spa and Fitness

There's no excuse for slipping on your fitness regime when you're staying on board Pacific Eden, with its fully-equipped gym, sports courts and pools offering all the opportunities you'll need to stay in shape. All guests enjoy complimentary use of the fitness machines and equipment at the Aqua HealthSpaFitness centre, including treadmills, exercise bikes and weights, which can be followed up with therapeutic treatments at the adjacent spa.

The day spa offers a huge range of health and beauty treatments for men and women to help you feel and look your very best, from hair styling, facials, manicures and pedicures to acupuncture, teeth whitening and even Botox. Joining a yoga class is another great way to work out your body and mind, or you can push yourself to the limit by signing up for P&O Cruises' Boot Camp at Sea.

Daytime Fun

You'll never have to worry about running out of things to do on your Pacific Eden cruise, with a packed schedule of activities from early morning to night, targeted at people of all ages and interests. Whether you're drawn to the top deck pool for organised pool games under the retractable roof, catching the latest Hollywood movies and cult favourites at the cinema, enjoying a spot of golf or challenging friends and family to cards, chess and classic board games, there's always plenty to get involved in.

You can take home more than just photos from your cruise holiday by signing up to one of the many classes taking place daily in venues throughout the ship, where you can learn to dance, cook exotic cuisine, make classy cocktails and appreciate fine wines under the tutelage of professional experts. Paid activities that can be added to your cruise experience include the P&O Edge Adventure Park for thrill-seekers, racing simulators and poker machines, roulette and more games at the casino.

Nightly Entertainment

Don't get too exhausted by your daytime activities, because the night is when Pacific Eden really comes to life. With nightclubs, a theatre, a casino and a wide selection of indoor and outdoor bars to choose from, there's lots to keep guests entertained every night through even the longest cruise.

The Dome is Pacific Eden's premier night spot, where you can strut your stuff backed by international DJs and join in with regular themed parties. P&O Cruises' hand-picked musicians, comedians and other performers provide live entertainment at the Marquee Theatre, the Sit Down Comedy Club and music venues, or you can escape the crowds to enjoy a quiet drink at pub-style and swim-up bars.

If there's a big match playing, you can usually catch the action at the sports bars or even on the big screen if there's a large enough audience. If you're feeling lucky, the Casino on Deck 8 features poker machines, roulette, blackjack tables and gaming lessons, where players of all levels can pick up valuable tips and tricks.

Kids Only

Pacific Eden's Kids' Club programs include lots of fun and inspirational activities throughout the day, helping the little ones get the most out of their cruise experience while their parents enjoy a well-earned break. P&O Cruises' Kids' Club programs were developed with input from childhood professionals to make sure activities are exciting, educational and age-appropriate.

At Turtle Cove, children aged 2 to 6 can enjoy iPad activities, mini Olympics and story time, while older kids aged 7 to 10 get creative with LEGO, jewellery making and scavenger hunts at the Shark Shack. Older kids and teenagers are equally well catered for by the diverse activities at HQ and HQ+, whether they have a passion for making music or prefer to compete against siblings and new friends on the sports courts. All Kids' Club venues are fully supervised and open all day until late.

Food Glorious Food

Pacific Eden was one of the first ships to unveil P&O Cruises' revolutionary dining experience, doing away with the traditional cruise buffet in favour of a wider variety of food outlets than ever before, serving fresh, healthy and delicious cuisine from all corners of the globe.

All cruise passengers receive three complimentary meals per day at your choice of the Waterfront Restaurant or the Pantry. The Waterfront serves up classic and contemporary Aussie cuisine a la carte in a relaxing environment made from natural materials to set the right mood during your cruise holiday. The Pantry is a bustling hub of exotic and familiar outlets and stalls where you'll find all your favourites or can try something new every meal, from Mexican street food to spicy Asian fare.

If that's not enough, there are many more options to satisfy every craving at Pacific Eden's 15 restaurants and bars, including pan-Asian Chinese, Indian, Thai and Japanese flavours at the moody and sensual Dragon Lady, upscale Italian cuisine at Angelo's and BBQ favourites at the Grill. Some venues are open until late if you get cravings outside of meal times, or you can contact room service to have refreshments sent straight to your cabin 24 hours a day.

Everyday Conveniences

If you're missing your home comforts, you'll find a huge range of products for sale in the three levels of the Atrium, where you can also stock up on duty-free souvenirs and gifts to make big savings. Laundry and dry cleaning services are available at reasonable rates – essential on a longer cruise – and child minding is available until 1am if required (at a small extra cost). If you need first aid or other medical care at any time, you'll find a well-equipped Medical Centre on Deck 4 staffed by qualified professionals.

Staying Connected

With an internet cafe, Wi-Fi access available ship-wide (extra cost) and a range of packages to choose from, keeping in touch with the wider world is no problem when you're out at sea. Mobile phone reception is also available on your cruise, with calls and texts charged at international roaming rates.

Getting Around

Even on a ship this size, you can't get lost with three elevators taking you to every deck and dedicated crew members always being on hand to offer assistance when needed. A copy of the Pacific Eden deck plans is always handy for providing clear details about what's on each deck, and passengers in wheelchairs won't have any trouble finding accessible rooms and dining areas as well as assistance with boarding and disembarkation.
