Star Cruises’ flagship vessel, SuperStar Virgo, is heading Down Under this summer, operating a range of short to longer cruises exploring marquee ports of call in Asia and Australia. She’s an elegant ship where East meets West seamlessly, with 935 cabins, a rich Asian-inspired decor, 25 food and beverage outlets, million-dollar stage shows, and activities to suit all ages. So what should you be planning to do on SuperStar Virgo?
Top of your list should be culinary pursuits. SuperStar Virgo is a foodie’s dream with an enviable line-up of dining venues, and some of the best Asian cuisine at sea. Beyond the main dining rooms are alternative restaurants such as Blue Lagoon, which is open 24 hours and features Asian and Western snacks and specialties. There’s also Café Gelato, an alfresco venue to cool down with an ice-cream or perk up with a fresh juice, and the intimate Palazzo, a trattoria offering a menu of modern Italian and Western dishes.
Of the Asian restaurants on board, The Noble House is the place to experience a traditional, multi-course Chinese banquet, while lovers of authentic Indian food should head for the Taj, SuperStar Virgo’s certified halal (pork-free) buffet. And there’s Samurai, which is all about the fascinating culinary styles of Japan. Highlights include a sushi bar and two intimate teppanyaki rooms where skilful chefs prepare fish, seafood, melt-in-the-mouth steaks and vegetables in a spectacular culinary display.
If you need to work off some cruise cuisine, there are plenty of ways to get active on SuperStar Virgo. The ship has a jogging track, ping-pong tables, golf nets, a small putting green and a basketball court, while indoor pursuits include a fully equipped gym with panoramic ocean views, and the option of exercise classes including aerobics.
A highlight of the ship’s elaborate Romanesque-style spa are two powerful jet pools for aquatic workouts. If you’re more in the mood to be pampered, however, there is a thermal suite, and a treatment menu featuring facials, Thai massage and reflexology, along with grooming services to keep you looking your best. And on SuperStar Virgo’s spacious outdoor decks is the Parthenon Pool for a cooling dip, and the option of kicking back in one of four jacuzzis to watch the scenery slip by.
Families and children are well catered for, with junior cruisers enjoying dedicated hangouts both indoors and out, and daily activity programs with activities ranging from pool games and movies to balloon parties and drawing competitions. And there’s the Starlight Video Arcade, featuring the popular games of Wii and Xbox.
Grown-ups also have an impressive line-up of entertainment options to choose from, with the bonus of babysitting services. Must-dos including a pre- or post-dinner cocktail in Galaxy of the Stars, where 360 degree views through huge windows await your attention, and seeing a show, with one of the most popular being Hot! Hot! Hot! A Brazilian Dance Show. It explores Brazil’s style and culture with flamboyant costumes, energetic acrobatic performances, and dance styles from samba and capoeira to salsa.
