Celebrity Solstice Ship Details

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice delivers small ship luxury on a grand scale. Operated by Celebrity Cruises, Solstice is home to the level of elegance and comfort you would expect in a five-star resort, from the Lawn Club to the five-million-dollar art collection. And all this can be enjoyed while cruising around Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

A little history

Celebrity Solstice is a relatively young ship, only built in late 2008. She was the first of the Celebrity Cruise ships to present a new kind of luxury for passengers, and her success means Celebrity has since built three more ships of her stature and class. Solstice was officially named by Sharon L. Smith, an ocean scientist, on 14 November 2008.

Ship’s design

When she was launched, Celebrity Solstice was a “first” in many ways. Her exterior features a colour scheme of classic white and blue extending from her hull and funnels to the blue glass on the upper decks. While on the inside, the entertainment, dining, lounges and everyday services are clustered which makes the ship remarkably easy to navigate. For example, Deck 5 features all the specialty restaurants.

Even though the Solstice can carry a maximum of 2,850 passengers, she is laid out in such a way that guests never feel crowded and can in fact find intimate spaces. She was also the first cruise ship to have five leading ladies of design decorate the staterooms.

In another first for Celebrity Cruises, the ship has a “green” focus. There are 216 solar panels contributing in part to the electrical grid; lighting and refrigerants are eco-friendly; and the hull is designed to improve fuel efficiency.

On Board Celebrity Solstice

Staterooms

Solstice offers a range of staterooms to suit your cruising style. There are 1,279 staterooms (including suits) boasting an ocean view and, of these, 1,205 have a balcony, which amounts to a massive 85% of all staterooms.

If money is no object, there are two Penthouse Suites featuring floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading out onto an expansive balcony. They also come with a separate living and dining area, baby grand piano, queen-sized sofa bed, two large-screen LCD televisions, two whirlpool tubs, his and hers showers, and a full bar.

Just a step down from the Penthouse, there are 44 Sky Suites complete with a spacious balcony, living area with queen-sized sofabed, 40-inch television, shower and bathtub. Both the Sky Suites and Penthouse Suites come with a butler service.

In a first for Celebrity, Solstice also presents 130 Aqua Class cabins. While their size is the same as Concierge staterooms (below), it is the unique service that truly sets them apart. Clustered close to the AquaSpa on Deck 11, these staterooms provide spa-style toiletries, a pillow menu, robes and slippers, invigorating showerhead, healthy canapés, complimentary water and iced tea on a daily basis, and an exclusive room service menu with a healthy twist. AquaSpa guests also have priority access to the clean living restaurant, Blu, and free use of special relaxation spaces, including the Persian Garden.

The Concierge staterooms provide welcome champagne, canapés, oversized bath towels, massaging showerhead, and pillow menu, as well as a complimentary shoeshine service. Another perk of Concierge Class is the priority check-in and luggage delivery.

Veranda Class staterooms offer ample indoor and outdoor space in which to relax, while Ocean View staterooms provide a large window and sitting area, and Inside Staterooms simply have a sofa and sitting area.

For larger groups or families, there are 121 connecting staterooms along with four family-sized ocean view cabins with balconies. Celebrity Solstice also offers 30 wheelchair accessible staterooms across various categories.

All staterooms come complete with daily amenities to make cruising as comfortable as possibly, including spacious wardrobes, television, safe, refrigerator, mini bar and air conditioning.

On Deck Adventures

By far the most talked-about element of Celebrity Solstice is the Lawn Club. On the highest deck, this Country Club inspired space boasts a manicured lawn made of real grass, as well as a putting course and bocce courts. The Lawn Club is also home to the Hot Glass Show, where guests can watch in amazement as professional artists create beautiful glass art from scratch.

The deck also houses the main pool area comprising a sports pool, family pool, (suitable for children), Wet Zone with fun fountain jets and four hot tubs. There’s also a basketball court and open-air jogging track around the deck.

Activities galore

In addition to the Hot Glass Show, Celebrity Solstice boasts a five-million-dollar art collection with 90 international artists. With all this culture, it should come as no surprise that the ship also offers an onboard enrichment program, Celebrity Life. Passengers can take part in activities across four categories: enrichment, wellness, trivia & games, and culinary.

Broaden your mind with the fascinating lectures as part of the “Beyond the Podium” talks, or continue your culinary journey at Cellar Masters, where you can sample a collection of wines from the world’s most celebrated wine regions. Sommeliers are on hand to help your wine selection, and you simply serve yourself from the latest wine dispensing system. Culinary experiences also extend to galley tours, cocktail making demonstrations and more. And of course, there are the cruise classics: dance classes, bingo, a video arcade, library, and such like.

Work out, chill out

Celebrity Solstice is the perfect cruise ship for some real “me time”. The Canyon Ranch SpaClub is filled with everything you need to indulge in pampering with spa treatments and massages, rebalance with a wellness and lifestyle program, or simply take some time out. The fitness centre is equipped with the latest weights and cardio equipment, plus personal trainers who can help you reach you fitness goals.

Solstice also features the Persian Garden, complete with a sauna, steam room, rain shower, and relaxation chairs – all with an ocean view of course. AquaSpa guests can also enjoy an adult-only lap pool and two whirlpools.

Kids only

Celebrity Solstice offers two dedicated areas for children: Fun Factory for ages 3-11 and X-Club for ages 12-17. Both kids zones provide a whole heap of fun, age-appropriate activities such as a video arcade, computer games, movies, air hockey, table football and more.

In addition, there are five different programs with activities coordinated according to age: Shipmates (3-5 years), Cadets (6-8 years), Ensigns (9-11 years), and two teen groups. While younger kids get messy with face painting and crafts, older kids can take part in pool Olympics, karaoke, prom parties and game shows.

While Solstice doesn’t provide group babysitting, parents can enjoy some kid-free time thanks to special parties for kids aged 3 to 11. These are organised for lunch, evening meals and late nights, and are charged per child per hour. In-cabin babysitting can also be organised for up to two children, so long as they are over 12 months old. Again, this is charged on a per child per hour basis.

Entertainment after dark

Celebrity Solstice is packed to the rafters with entertainment. On deck, in the atrium or in the main theatre, you can find music and performances wherever you are. And from toe-tapping steel drums to a sophisticated string quartet, there’s something for every mood.

For the big name acts, the ship’s main show lounge, the Solstice Theatre, is the place to be. Here, you’ll find a variety of dazzling dancing, singing, circus and revue shows. For a little more spontaneity, head to the Atrium and watch live music and performances from the comfort of the Ensemble Lounge.

For a refreshing cocktail overlooking the sunset, the Sky Observation Lounge is picture perfect – just be sure to stay for the live music and dancing later on. Depending on the night, you can sway to the soulful sounds of a Motown band or do the jitterbug at a theme party.

Next, you can try your luck in the casino before heading to Michael’s Club to dance until dawn.

Food Glorious Food

Celebrity Solstice isn’t just about offering restaurants, it’s about creating a culinary experience for every night of your cruise.

The experience starts in the main dining room, the Grand Epernay, which towers over two decks. The majestic space is stunningly designed with glass and a two-story wine tower, accessible only by ladder. While breakfast and lunch are open seating, there are two traditional sittings for dinner with assigned seating. There is also an open seating option for dinner, called Celebrity Select. The menu features a range of international cuisine with classic options as well as contemporary flavours.

In addition to the main dining room, there are 10 restaurants with very distinct styles and menus. Located nine decks above the main dining room, the Oceanview Café provides a casual buffet from breakfast through to the early hours of the morning. On the same level, the Pool/Mast Grill provides another casual option with burgers, fries and other grilled delights.

Located next to the spa pool, the AquaSpa Café is the perfect spot to nourish with a healthy breakfast or lunch.

For specialty restaurants, head to Deck 5 where you’ll find Bistro on Five, Blu, Silk Harvest, Murano, and Tuscan Grille.

Bistro on Five is a laid back eatery serving up an array of crepes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as paninis, salads and soups.

Blu is an exclusive restaurant for the AquaSpa guests, offering a clean-inspired menu – in other words, beautiful ingredients with no fuss. Or if it’s hearty Italian fare and great views you’re craving, the Tuscan Grille will more than satisfy.

Murano is a signature Celebrity restaurant, presenting Continental- French cuisine as a delectable six-course degustation or a la carte menu. Or if you have a passion for Asian cuisine, the delicacies at Silk Harvest will transport your palette to the Far East.

For light bites and tasty treats, Café al Bacio & Gelateria will tempt you with waffle cones, dessert cocktails and more. Complimentary room service is also available around the clock.

Everyday Conveniences

Most of the everyday necessities can be found in or around the Atrium. There are 19 shops and boutiques in which to unleash your credit card. Here, you’ll also find the card room, internet café, and 24-hour library.

Staying connected

Celebrity Solstice features an internet cafe with laptops. There is also onboard Wi-Fi with internet packages available for purchase.

Getting Around

The great thing about Celebrity Solstice is that she’s been designed with exceptional accessibility features. In addition to the 30 wheelchair accessible staterooms, the ship features wider doors, pool/whirlpool lifts, wheelchair seating in all restaurants, lounges and theatres, and accessible restrooms with automatic doors. All decks but one (Deck 16) are accessible via lift, and Braille is on all way-finding signage.
