Since 1972, Carnival Cruise Lines has been providing family-friendly cruises to suit every budget. A British-American owned company based in Florida, the cruise line is one of 10 cruise brands owned and operated by Carnival Corporation & plc, including Carnival Cruise Lines, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises, P&O Cruises World Cruising, Princess Cruises, and Seabourn. Carnival Cruise Lines has 24 cruise ships, making it the largest brand in the group. Together, in 2015, these brands represent around 80% of the Australian and New Zealand cruise market.
Back in the seventies, Carnival was the first cruise line to introduce shorter cruises for those on a budget. Today the “Fun Ships” are famous for providing a never-ending choice of activities and entertainment. What’s more, in Australia, Carnival Cruise Lines plays a big role in improving cruises for passengers and the industry at large. The cruise line continuously lobbies for better passenger services in ship ports and improves itineraries with exciting new destinations in the South Pacific and beyond.
Carnival offers cruises to over 60 destinations. Holidaymakers can select short and long cruise itineraries encompassing: Europe, Bermuda, South America, Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, the Bahamas, Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and New England.

In September 2014, Carnival Legend joined the Australian family. Also departing from Sydney, Carnival Legend sails seasonally to New Caledonia, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and longer cruises.

Who cruises with Carnival Cruise Line?
Carnival’s Fun Ships attract a wide range of holidaymakers, from solo travellers to couples in their thirties to fifties, and families (especially during school holidays). The adult-only retreat on selected ships also entices honeymooners and couples seeking a romantic break.
The Carnival Cruise Experience
With water parks, mini-golf, sports courts, big screen movies and more, there are more activities than you can count! The specific activities depend on the ship, but one thing is for sure: guests of all ages and interests can find something fun to do every hour of the day.*
Carnival has introduced the first open-air suspended cycling experience every to be seen on a cruise ship. Willing passengers climb up to the hanging bikes and use pedal power to cycle around a suspended track, over 100 metres above the sea. There are two tracks so passengers can challenge their mates to a race.
Carnival Multiplex and IMAX
Featuring the first-at-sea IMAX cinema, Carnival Multiplex is the world’s most immersive cinema experience at sea. Guests can munch on free popcorn and enjoy the latest IMAX documentaries and Hollywood blockbusters on a three-decks-high screen. Over in the Thrill Theatre, multidimensional special effects with 3D images and moving seats bring the screen action to life.
Carnival’s onboard water park has something for all the family. Adventure seekers love Carnival’s Twister Waterslide and Green Thunder, the steepest water slide at sea. This adrenalin-pumping rapid free-fall waterslide gives action seekers the ride of their life.
Carnival’s cruise ships provide everything guests need for a seriously chilled out pool session. Ships typically feature an aft pool for a sea breeze and a mid-ship pool, handily situated next to the 24/7 ice-cream stop. Yummy!
Carnival Spa and Fitness
Carnival provides the perfect haven to pamper your body and recharge your mind. Carnival Spa is designed with total relaxation in mind. There’s a long menu of massages, facials, wellness therapies and beauty treatments available for men and women, including hot stone massages and full-body wraps.
There’s no excuse to forget your fitness routine on a Carnival cruise. Each ship boasts a gym, where passengers can get sweaty with weights, aerobic equipment and fitness classes.
Serenity Adult-Only Retreat
Adults love Carnival’s dedicated no-kids retreat, Serenity, where they are greeted with hammocks, cocktails and complete freedom.
Entertainment and Nightlife
The “Fun Ship” experience begins from the very second guests step aboard a Carnival Cruise with the Sailaway Party. From that moment on, it’s entertainment all the way. Sing and dance at the theatre with musical productions by Playlist Productions. Hit the dance floor in the onboard nightclub until the early hours. Go on a romantic date to the poolside movies and try your luck at blackjack, poker and roulette in the casino.
Bars and Lounges
Carnival Cruise Line ships feature a wide range of bars and lounges to suit every style. The new SKYBOX Sports Bar is the place to be for sports lovers, putting you right in front of the action. So no matter where you are in the world, you won’t miss your team’s scores. When guests want a local brew, Carnival brews its own beer in the RedFrog Pub – it doesn’t get much more local than that! For a change of mood, enjoy cocktails and wine with new friends in the very decadent piano bars and lounges.
Carnival cruise ships provide plenty of places to pick up gifts for those back home – and yourself! From the Cherry On Top lolly store to the latest fashion boutiques, you won’t come home empty-handed.
Every ship in Carnival’s fleet offers the award-winning youth program, Camp Carnival. Catering for kids of all ages, the program is one of the main reasons so many families love to cruise with Carnival. The program comprises activities specially designed for three different age groups: 2-5 years, 6-8 years, and 9-11 years. The activities are supervised by Camp Carnival staff, who all have specific education or childcare experience and training.
Carnival ships know how to cater for kids at mealtimes too. Kids get their own menus, with all their favourites. And when parents want to enjoy a night out, the Night Owls program provides late-night kids’ activities for an extra fee.
Older kids aged 12-14 and 15-17 also have their own clubs, where they can hang out with friends at late night movies and swim parties, play sports and the latest video games and hang out at the non-alcoholic bar.
Seuss at Sea
Kids will give Carnival a big thumbs-up when they discover the whimsical and wonderful world of Seuss At Sea. In the ship’s main dining room, life-sized characters from Dr. Seuss play and skip between Seuss-style tables. Cats in Hats and Fish Red and Blue will be ready to spring off the page into your breakfast time. Get ready for some pretty fantastic concoctions to be served from the unique breakfast and brunch menus. Thing 1 and Thing 2 waiters in bright blue wigs will dodge around tables, serving delights like Yoghurt Parfait Schlopp, Moose Juice and the gravity-defying Truffula Tree Pancakes. Don’t be too wary of the vivid lime Green Eggs and Ham breakfast – it tastes just like normal yummy scrambled eggs!
With breakfast over, get stuck into the art and crafts activities, and the interactive Seuss-a-palooza Story Time. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Seuss-a-palooza parade! Kids can join in the bell ringing and dancing around the ship with Sam I Am and the Cat in The Hat characters. “Oh, the places you’ll go.”
Hasbro, The Game Show
Family fun is guaranteed when you play giant versions of family favourite games like Connect 4. Get ‘four in a row’ by throwing basketballs into a huge blue Connect 4 structure!

On Carnival Legend, on-board menus have been specially adapted to suit Australian palettes, with premium local Aussie produce, wines and coffee. Specialty restaurants include the award-winning Nouveau Restaurant and Bonsai Sushi. There are also plenty of snack venues, such as Fat Jimmy’s poolside grill.
All ships in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet offer an impressive selection of spacious staterooms. All rooms include individual climate control, television, safe and hairdryer. Depending on the ship, there are different cabin categories to suit your budget, from spacious interior and balcony rooms to suites and interconnecting staterooms. On the latest ship, Carnival Vista, the cruise line has introduced a new accommodation concept: Havana Cabanas. This unique class of cabin provides private outdoor patios complete with hammocks and lounge chairs and exclusive access to the Latin-style Havana Bar and Pool.
Carnival offers a wide range of on-shore excursions depending on the destination. Cruise passengers can book adrenalin-filled outings, beach and cultural activities, eco tours, family fun, active adventures, historical tours, sailing, shopping, sightseeing and more.
* Please note the activities, dining and facilities listed above are not fleet wide. Some ships have more or fewer activities than others.
