What You Need to Know About... Celebrity Solstice

For the past three summers Celebrity Solstice has ventured to Australia for a long season of cruising. She’s undoubtedly an eye-catching vessel, as well as a marvel of shipbuilding. Celebrity Cruises made headlines when it announced that it was sending her to Australia in late 2012, and since her Down Under debut, many cruise fans have enjoyed her stylish accommodations and unusual features never before seen at sea.

Celebrity Solstice was the first of five ships in her namesake class, and the largest ship in the fleet at the time of her launch in 2008. She also pioneered cruise-ship innovations including a top deck Lawn Club with real grass, a hot glass show and a hull design with paintwork designed to boost fuel efficiency.

Cruising on Celebrity Solstice is an elegant, big ship cruise experience where you can do as much or as little as you choose, and high on everyone’s must-do list should be enjoying top quality cuisine. Dining choices abound on this ship with 10 options.

Beyond the elegant Grand Epernay Dining Room, famous for a dramatic two-story glass wine tower, our top pick of the specialty venues includes Murano, blending modern and classical cuisine, Silk Harvest, with a menu of exotic Asian fusion dishes, and the stylish Italian Steakhouse, Tuscan Grille. Blu is the ship’s unique health food restaurant; it’s exclusive to guests staying in spa-focused AquaClass accommodations, but is also open to suite guests depending on availability.

Celebrity Solstice is an ideal ship for long-range cruising with an impressive line-up of leisure and entertainment facilities. Celebrity’s enrichment program, Celebrity Life, is offered day and night. It divides activities into four categories – culinary, wellness, trivia and games – which allows you to choose between going to a wine tasting, participating in a game show, attending a lecture hosted by an expert in their field or learning a new dance style.

If kicking back with a good book is more your style, Celebrity Solstice has two pools including an elegant indoor solarium for adults only. Lovers of pampering can head to the recently upgraded Canyon Ranch SpaClub where a dizzying menu of treatments await from massages to facials and everything in between. This lovely facility also has a Persian Garden, a hub of wellbeing featuring a coed sauna, tropical rain showers and exotic heated relaxation benches with ocean views.

The ship’s unique Lawn Club is just over half an acre in size and located on Deck 15, featuring live grass, the Patio on the Lawn and Sunset Bar, lawn bowls, and a three-hole putting course. Pick of some of the other bars and lounges include Cellar Masters, where you can indulge in fine wines by the glass recommended by Celebrity’s sommeliers, and the Sky Observation Lounge, a quiet refuge by day which transforms into a venue devoted to music and dancing at night.

Kids are also well catered for on Celebrity Solstice with staffed programs available for five age groups between three and 17 years. Kids also have their own venues to enjoy, including two dedicated kids’ areas, X-Club and the Fun Factory, and activities for all ages ranging from Wii games, face painting and scavenger hunts, to slumber parties and a prom party. Individual babysitting is also available to allow parents to enjoy some me-time.
