This Home Grown Hero Wants to Entertain You These Holidays

From the moment you step aboard Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, you’ll know this is no ordinary cruise ship. But you won’t realise quite how extraordinary she is immediately.

Perhaps it will sink in when you catch your first wave on the new FlowRider surf simulator. Or when you follow your morning swim with a few laps of the ice-skating rink. These and many more amazing features were added when Voyager of the Seas was taken away for a much-heralded revitalisation last year.

The flagship of Royal Caribbean’s Voyager Class, this mega-ship has room for 3100-plus guests and is the largest cruise ship to be based in Australia. And now she is packed with a seemingly endless array of jaw-dropping cruise ship entertainment to match.

Voyager of the Seas Rock-climbing wall

Ready to explore? Here are our top picks on the Voyager of the Seas:

FlowRider surfing simulator

Australians have watched green-eyed as passengers on Royal Caribbean ships overseas have carved up the waves on deck. And now the wait is over: Voyager of the Seas is officially the first ship in Australia to boast the amazing FlowRider surfing simulator. This wave playground means you never have to wait for the perfect conditions to catch a wave. The 9.75-metre-wide, 12-metre-long surf simulator splashes more than 60,000 gallons of water per minute and reaches speeds up to 72 kilometres an hour. If you’re game, why not try your first hang ten on a surfboard? Just be sure to wear a secure swimsuit!

The less adventurous can boogie-board or simply watch the wipeouts from the nearby stadium seating. If you’re really serious about honing your skills, private lessons are available for a fee. In fact, Aussie flowboarding champion Adam Wildman learned all his tricks on Freedom of the Seas as a teen!

Rock-climbing wall

Voyager of the Seas was the first Royal Caribbean ship with an outdoor rock-climbing wall, and it is still drawing huge crowds. Whether you’re a first-timer or seasoned climber, there’s nothing like ringing the bell at the top of the nine-metre-high wall. While you’re up there, take a minute to soak in the view. Shoes, helmets and harnesses are provided.

Ice-skating rink

With Royal Caribbean’s Oasis, Quantum and Freedom class ships already featuring ice-skating rinks, it was only a matter of time until Voyager caught up! Now Voyager of the Seas boasts the first ice skating rink at sea on any ship based in Australia. Spin, twirl and glide around the ice rink during the day. And at night, watch the pros show you how it’s done. This is cruise ship entertainment at its coolest…

3D cinema

Already wowing guests on the colossal Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas, Royal Caribbean has brought the 3D cinema to Voyager of the Seas. Simply put on your special glasses (provided), pick up some popcorn, and watch as new releases come to life.

Movies under the Stars

Completing the cruise ship entertainment for movie lovers, the ship now features a poolside outdoor screen. Relax in a lounge and enjoy the outdoor flicks on most evenings of your cruise (weather permitting of course!). Or take on fellow passengers in the giant video game challenges. Game on!

Mini golf

Grab your putter and challenge your friends and family to a game of mini-golf on deck. Just be careful not to be distracted by the view!

DreamWorks Experience

Royal Caribbean has teamed up with DreamWorks studio to bring family entertainment to a whole new dimension. Your favourite characters from Madagascar, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda will appear in an energetic musical parade through the main promenade deck. And, best of all, you’ll get a chance to meet them over dinner!
