Brisbane is buzzing with the latest hot cruise news – The world’s largest cruise line, Royal Caribbean, has announced Legend of the Seas will make Brisbane home for the 2015/16 summer cruise season. We've got the scoop…
Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas arrives in Brisbane in December 2015 for five months. This magnificent 70,000-ton superliner will now regularly navigate the Brisbane River and proudly dock at the Brisbane Cruise Terminal at Portside Wharf.
This exciting addition by Royal Caribbean meets the growing demand from Australians and international guests for world-class cruising holidays to Queensland and the South Pacific. Explorer of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas are all based in Sydney. The addition of Legend of the Seas into Brisbane means a remarkable four Royal Caribbean ships are based in Australia.
The 2000-passenger Legend of the Seas will make 10 calls to the tropical ports of Cairns and Airlie Beach during the 2015/16 season. Her sister ships, Radiance of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas, will join her in the waters off the Great Barrier Reef and far north Queensland coast. They will in turn be making 27 port calls at Cairns, Brisbane, Airlie Beach and Port Douglas.
This is all good news for Brisbane and the region. And it will be a welcome boost to the local economy. The positive upshot from international guests attracted by sailings with Legend of the Seas is estimated to be around $25–30 million. Ports in Queensland can look forward to each passenger spending an average of $100 in a typical visit. That’s no drop in the ocean!
New Legend of the Seas attractions
Attractions aboard Legend of the Seas have been massively enhanced as a result of a $50 million refurbishment in 2013. The cruise ship features a spectacular two deck grand dining room, 800-seat theatre and the superb Vitality Spa and Fitness Centre. She’s unlike any other ship sailing from Brisbane – you'll be entranced in the magnificent central atrium that stages stunning acrobatic aerial shows.
This is a ship built for both the adventurous and the relaxation seeker. There’s dazzling live entertainment to suit everyone, numerous bars and lounges, the Casino Royale and a special adults-only Solarium pool retreat area under glass-canopy. And if you want to get active, you'll find the state-of-the-art Fitness Centre hosts classes that include yoga, aerobics, kickboxing and more.
Even more choices
Only last month, Royal Caribbean announced that the 3,100-passenger mega-liner Explorer of the Seas would be based in Sydney from November 2015. It’s one of four ships in the Royal Caribbean Australian fleet that will have undergone the “Royal Advantage” fleet revitalisation program. This $250 million bow–to-stern enhancement and upgrade program means passengers can enjoy even more new amenities and features.
As a fleet, Royal Caribbean offers an amazing range of cruise choices, with over 70 itineraries, including the popular Australian, South Pacific and New Zealand destinations. You’re bound to find a cruise to suit you!
