Australians are fairly well renowned for a shared spirit of adventure and enjoying a drink or two while on holiday – so it’s little wonder the Australia-based Dawn Princess was chosen as the first Princess Cruises vessel to feature its own international whisky bar.
Dawn Princess underwent a major refurbishment in May, including the renovation of its Magnums Bar. Featuring 63 varieties from around the world – including a Single Malt from Tasmania’s Lark Distillery – the dedicated whisky bar is one of the latest innovations in Princess Cruises' entertainment offerings.
Worldwide Whisky Appreciation
Princess Cruises vice president Australia and New Zealand Stuart Allison says the growing trend towards whisky appreciation across all generations prompted the decision to create the specialist menu – drawing on remote region Scottish whiskies such as Talkiser, classic American bourbons like Knob Hill, and local drops including Bakery Hill's Double Wood whisky from Melbourne and New Zealand's South Island Single Malt.
“Whether you’re a seasoned whisky drinker or a newcomer to the world of drams, Princess has created a whisky list which provides something for everyone,” says Mr Allison.
“The new concept makes whisky approachable for all our guests so we think it will be a big hit, with guests able to enjoy a drop after dinner and a show or during a languid sea day.”
Bartenders are on hand to provide advice and curate a diverse tasting experience for all palates, serving by the nip as well as creating a daily flight of three whiskies for sampling different flavours.
Not Just Whisky
The addition of a dedicated whisky bar follows the introduction of Princess Cruises' first-ever Beer & Wine Garden Festival on the Dawn Princess back in May, after her multimillion-dollar refurbishment. On two nights of every cruise exceeding a week in duration, the Dawn’s top deck is transformed into a mini-festival with live music and regional beer and wine marquees. Passengers on-board the vessel’s 12-night Singapore-to-Fremantle cruise were the first to enjoy the Beer & Wine Garden Festival at the end of May.
Princess Cruises is no stranger to moving beyond traditional cruise offerings. Their Movies Under the Stars (MUTS) is one of the most popular innovations in cruise entertainment, while their Italian-inspired Piazza has been widely celebrated as a tremendously popular innovation.
