Aussies Aboard – The Best Cruises for Australia Day

It’s Australia’s big day, an annual event in the middle of the summer season which gets everyone out and about to celebrate. And for many savvy travellers, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a traditional big bash on the high seas. There are a number of options to consider for a cruise combining a relaxing high-seas getaway with the chance to enjoy the Australia Day festivities. Here are five true-blue options.

Sydney on Pacific Jewel

Pacific Jewel will head from Melbourne to Sydney for Australia’s special day in 2016, on a leisurely four-night cruise. After a day at sea, the ship will be in Sydney Harbour for a day of fun-packed activities, followed by another day at sea to return home. In between you can enjoy the recently revitalised ship, which features the brand-new The Pantry casual-dining concept, and entertainment options including the Bianco and Gatsby-themed parties.

Tasmania on Carnival Spirit

Enjoy an Australia Day with a difference, while exploring the cultural Tasmanian hub of Hobart on this five-night round-trip cruise from Sydney. Your ship is Carnival Spirit, which is based year-round in Australia, and in between a relaxing sea day at each end of the voyage, you’ll spend a day in port visiting Hobart for the Australia Day festivities, followed by historic Port Arthur the next day.

Cruise to Nowhere on Pacific Pearl

Pacific Pearl will be part of the action this Australia Day, embarking on a cruise to nowhere from Sydney for three nights. After her departure, the ship will pass through the Heads for a full day at sea, enabling guests to unwind and relax ahead of the festivities. Then, at 6.30am on Australia Day, she’ll cruise back into Sydney Harbour and drop anchor for an overnight stay, offering front-row seats for both the day’s and evening’s events, including fireworks.
